Many teachers are not aware that they must gain approval from the VSAEC before using animals in teaching.

It is heartening for all concerned in animal welfare that the Victorian Schools Animal Ethics Committee has reviewed the use of chicks and ducklings for teaching the imprinting process in classrooms. As of 1st January 2012, this activity will no longer be permissible due to the animal welfare issues which have been demonstrated as a result of this practice. This is a terrific step in the right direction for the safety of our fluffy friends.
